When looking for vacancies for freelance writers it is worth bearing in mind that there are many different types of jobs available. Whilst it is probably more preferable to find a full-time position, potential writers should be willing to accept a range of other different work opportunities.
For example, as well as finding full-time positions, you may wish to consider looking for part-time work or even temporary and one-off opportunities. In fact, most freelance writers will often complete numerous small projects for a variety of different clients. Some of these clients may only have a one-time opportunity to offer; whereas others may provide intermittent work on a more long-term basis.
Discovering jobs on freelance websites
One of the first places to start looking is on a wide range of freelance websites on the Internet. It is worth noting that whilst there are a few big and well-known websites that many writers choose to start with, there are plenty of other smaller websites offering services as well.
Both of these have their advantages and disadvantages; for example, the bigger websites may be able to provide for more opportunities for potential writers; however, there is also likely to be far more competition for each individual job that is posted. Equally, some of the bigger websites have a reputation for helping clients to find writers who are willing to do the work for a low fee, whereas smaller websites may specialise in providing high quality work at higher prices.
As a result, it can be a good idea to build a reputation and portfolio based on the work that you do on some of the larger websites, before exploring the opportunities available on smaller websites, once you have more experience.
Looking through job ads and classified sections
As well as looking for websites that specifically cater for freelance writers, is also possible to find vacancies advertised alongside regular jobs. You are properly more likely to find more full-time opportunities with this method; however, some of the companies that advertising these positions may require you to live and work in a certain area, unlike opportunities found on other websites which may enable you to work remotely.
Creating your own vacancies
Another possibility is to look for the work independently. In order to do this you may need to contact companies directly, providing them with details of how it is you may wish to help them. It is generally harder to find work in this way; however, any work that you do find is more likely to be better paid.
